Justice G. A Oguntande (Hon)

Justice Oguntade attended St. Michael's C.M.S School, Epe between 1946 and 1952 for his primary education and Ijebu-Ode Grammar School between 1953 and 1958 for his secondary education. On leaving secondary school in 1958, he was employed as a Court clerk at the High Court of Justice, Ibadan where he served between 1958-1961

In September, 1961 he enrolled at the Holborn College of Law for his LL.B degree. In 1964, he obtained the LL.B (Hons) degree of the University of London. Enrolled at the Nigerian Law School in September,1965 and was called to the Nigerian Bar on 15th January, 1966. He was in private Legal Practice in Lagos between 1966 and September,1980

In September,1980 he was elevated to the High Court Bench in Lagos State and served there till September 1987 when he was preferred as a Justice of the Court of Appeal. On 19th May, 2004, he was elevated to the Supreme Court where he served till March 10, 2010 when he retired on the attainment of 70 years of age. It is noteworthy that he was Chairman of the Armed Robbery Tribunal in Lagos State between 1984 and 1986

He was chancellor, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) for 1992 to 1999. He has been chancellor Diocese of Lagos from 1992 up-till date. He was awarded the National Honour Commander of the Nigeria (C.O.N) in 2005 and the First Anglican Communion National Award for Integrity and Excellence in 2008. He delivered a paper at the International Bar Association in Chicago in September 2005 on "Barriers to Justice - The Nigerian Experience" and to the International Symposium on Economic Crime in Cambridge in 2008 on "Fighting Corruption and Money Laundering in Banking". He is a member of the World Jurist Association.

In addition to serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors of IRM Ltd,, Justice Oguntade also sits on the board of several companies in Nigeria.
